[Twins with very different personalities, but it is a little fun teasing and getting under Kaplan's skin just a little. He leans forward to prop himself up on an elbow while the other hand works at unfolding the fabric between them. In it lays a gold hoop threaded through blue sea glass. It matches the one dangling from Hargrove's ear.]
So I got this pair, but I wanted to have this one made into a necklace. I don't know if you can do jewelry, but there's no store for it here, and no jeweler in the city I think. I only have this one chain, [where he taps where his own necklace sits,] and I'm not keen in giving it up.
[Ah. Billy has a guess as to what this is for and why he's sworn to secrecy. He nods his head.]
I can do that. Do you want a chain that looks similar to that one? Or did you have something else in mind? I can make you whatever you need, it just helps if I can picture it.
[Despite his antics, Hargrove does know he has to behave because this is his boyfriend's brother. He knows how Tommy feels about the guy and the blond does not want to make things awkward. Think of how family dinners would go.
He seems to ponder over something, glancing at the witch for a moment as if debating to tell him.]
I had a thought, but it's pretty fucking sappy but I think he'd like it.
[Another reason for secrecy. His metaphorical reputation.]
I was gonna put the seaglass on my chain and give it to him, and keep the one you give me for my necklace.
[It was a big thing, what Billy was proposing and it shows in his face, even if Kaplan doesn't know the backstory.]
[There's obviously some kind of backstory there involving sentiment that Billy's not privy to, and even without knowing he likes the idea of that kind of thought going into something for his brother. Let alone knowing he would appreciate something pretty fucking sappy despite his protests.]
...I'm sure that will mean a lot. [There's a smile and he doesn't push for the story behind the necklace.] Would matching be better then? Or do you want to be able to tell the chains apart at a glance?
[The blond has put a lot of thought into this. He probably won’t be able to give Tommy the same extravaganza that Hargrove got for his, but he can try. Wants to try.
It’s a new feeling still, wanting to make someone not himself or Max happy.]
I wanna be able to tell them apart. When I look at it, I wanna know… they’re wearing a piece of my jewelry.
[Hargrove hesitates for a moment, then speaks again.]
It’s for your brother. I’m asking now because it’s for his birthday. He got me these earrings for mine, so now I can give back for his in a good way. …Do you think he’d like it?
[He kind of figured, but Billy has the grace to nod with only a hint of a coy smile.]
Getting prepped early. Go to know he's got someone on the ball. I think he'd love anything, but that sounds like an especially thoughtful gift.... He doesn't get a lot of those. It'll mean a lot to me.
Yeah, I didn't know how long it would take or anything. Also gives me a chance to find a box to put it in. Might have to look around a shopping center or something if there's one. Think the aliens were big on jewelry?
[He fiddles with his own necklace for a moment.]
You probably know him really good, so hearing you say that lets me know its a good gift. Do you think he likes cake? Maybe I can replicate it?
It's totally cool if you wanna handle that stuff solo, but you know I can magic up anything you ask for right? I kind of owe you both more than I can ever pay back, so...I mean, say the word.
Also, pretty sure almost everyone in existence likes cake, I don't his favourite kind though, we only really had a fun birthdays together, and I'm not sure he had a whole lotta cake before that, so Kate and I would usually switch things up.
You fixed up my arm, that's plenty payback. Tommy told me what happened. Some shitty little bug or something got into you and made you go fucking haywire.
[Hargrove doesn't mention how Billy's words were like their own bug in his mind. Talking about how he'd hurt Tommy one day. Hargrove knew it was only a matter of time before it happened.]
Do you know what kind of flavors he likes? Maybe we can figure a cake out from that.
Yeah, but...I still hurt you. A lot. And not just you...Maybe I wasn' t the one driving, but it was still my body.
[Billy doesn't know, but Hargrove's had a pretty similiar experience, he should know that hurt doesn't leave even when people start treating you close to normal again.]
Funfetti. It's not actually his favourite, there's a whole mushy backstory, but it'd probably mean the most to him. His actual favourite to eat is carrot.
[A flinch. Hargrove does know exactly how it feels. How sometimes that hurt still actually hurts even though the others from his time tell him time and time again it wasn't his fault. They can't see the blood on his hands like Hargrove can, and he supposes Billy is the same here. The blond relaxes and gives a nod.]
I get it. Or, I understand at least.
[He drums his fingers a little on the tabletop and underneath it, his foot bounces. Hargrove looks to Billy with a confused look.]
What's Funfetti?
[He has a feeling Tommy's told this to him before.]
[Billy smiles, and points his hands well away from Hargrove just to be as small a threat as possible. He murmurs as few words, and with a flash of blue magic a slice of funfetti cake appears on a plate with a plastic fork and he slides it across the table.]
Mostly kids are really into it, but it's sentiment.
[Hargrove is a little tense as Kaplan works his magic, but not nearly as bad as he would've been back in the spring. It's mostly seen in his shoulders, which visibly relax as the blue magic flashes to leave a slice of cake in its wake.
He looks at it.]
...It's....Colorful.
[C'mon, you can do better than that, Hargrove.]
It does look like something he'd like.
[The hint is in 'mostly kids are into it', which means this might've been something Tommy wanted when he was small, but was denied.]
I think it'll be perfect. I'll have to harass you closer to his birthday for a fresh cake.
[He picks up the fork and uses it to take a bite and gives a nod.]
Plain vanilla, but if that's what he wants, that's what'll I try to get for him.

I can magic something up if you want to see?
[He's cautious enough to know better than to just casually throw the magic around without warning after everything.]

[Theres a small smile that looks…affectionate when he remembers the conversation.]
Yeah I don’t mind because I wanna see what this shit is. Just, on the table and not on me.
